Coast to Coast

(Westlife) – Coast to Coast, Basildon Festival Leisure Park

I’d booked a ticket for the five twenty showing of ‘Dunkirk’ at the Vue Cinema in Basildon’s ‘Festival Leisure Park’ – known locally as ‘Bas Vegas’. I’d dropped friends Kim & Gary off at Gatwick and had negotiated the Dartford Tunnel faster than I had anticipated, so I decided on a late lunch/early dinner.

There are plenty of restaurants at the Festival Leisure Park, but several were closed later afternoon, so I thought I’d try ‘Coast to Coast’ .

The décor is as you’d expect, ersatz Americana, but well executed, better than many ‘American’ restaurants I’ve tried in the past.

Service was prompt and friendly, there were fewer than a dozen diners in the house though.

I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger with a diet Pepsi. The burger was described on the menu as ‘Bacon Cheeseburger’ no hyperbole there then, with sweet potato fries. All burgers are a 7oz* beef patty, made from 100% farm assured, grass-fed beef, with lettuce, beef tomato and mayo in a sourdough bun with fries and red slaw.”

It arrived promptly, cooked well-done (inevitably) with several rashers of smoky bacon. The cheese was difficult to discern, but it was an okay burger. The sweet potato fries were hot, crispy and plentiful.

Bacon Cheeseburger

All in all, pretty average,  certainly nothing to complain about, but nothing to rush back for.

The moral of this story, check out restaurants online before dining… there are other venues at Bas Vegas that get much better reviews.
