Poles Apart

(Pink Floyd) – Polash, Burnham on Crouch

I had arranged to meet a friend for a cheeky curry, he recently moved to Burnham on Crouch so we agreed to meet at The Polash restaurant.

The Polash is a Burnham on Crouch institution, opened back in 1983, as such it’s outlived any of their peers in South Woodham Ferrers and elsewhere.

I last visited about twenty years ago.

The menu is standard ‘old school’ Indian Restaurant fare, and yes I’m aware that most ‘Indian’ restaurants are Bangladeshi.

The décor is dark, with embedded ‘jewels’ in the wallpaper- no flock though.

It was a quiet Monday evening, there were a few other couples when my friend and I arrived.

We skipped popadoms and starters, ploughing straight into main courses.

I ordered Lamb Tikka Biryani with a Keema Paratha on the side.

My friend ordered Chicken Bhuna with rice and a couple of chapatis.

The food was tasty enough, and piping hot, but just lacking in imagination.

Old school, and not necessarily in a good way.

There are other Indian restaurants in the area, we won’t hurry back to the Polash.
