Same old Scene

(Roxy Music) – The Scene by Simon Rimmer – Dubai Marina

I had one night in Dubai before an early morning flight home, and my host – Sue – suggested ‘The Scene’. It’s a place she and her husband, Graham, visit frequently and I’d commented that the whole Marina complex had developed since my last visit to Dubai some years ago.

It’s located on the fourth floor of ‘Pier 7’, a multi-storey entertainment complex.

Reception is manned by two, very short, maitres ‘d and we were promptly shown to a table overlooking the marina. Inside was very busy and sparkling with early Christmas lights.

The menu is ‘traditional pub food’ – pies, burgers, fish & chips and so on – but with a Dubai twist.

I ordered a ‘Scotch Egg’ starter, the twist being the veal sausage meat rather than pork. It was delicious and moist, the egg slightly runny.

For the main course I ordered the Cheeseburger, cooked rather more than the promised ‘medium’, but the cheese was, in all honesty, disappointing, a mere slither, so thin as to be transparent. I’m afraid Simon Rimmer would not serve something like that on ‘Sunday Brunch’.

I skipped the bun, and only ate a few of the ‘proper chips’, but they were fine, ‘HP’ sauce with both courses was a bit OTT, but that was my choice of dishes.

There are other sauces available, maybe offer a choice of sauces, guys, maybe some Sriracha Mayonnaise?

All in all a pleasant enough meal, washed down with a couple of pints of draught Heineken.

If ‘The Scene’ was local to me I would be a regular.
